The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League announced today that Simon Fraser University forward Takato Cox is the BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 12, 2020.
Cox had two goals and three assists in two games as SFU snapped Trinity Western University’s season-opening 12-game winning streak on Thursday and extended its own win streak to five games on Saturday.
The Redondo Beach, California product assisted on SFU's third goal in the first period on Thursday before adding an assist on Kyle Bergh's second period hat trick goal and scoring himself in the third en route to a 6-3 victory over Trinity Western University at the Langley Events Centre.
The 21-year-old, who’s in his first BCIHL season, notched a first period goal and a second period assist as SFU built a 4-0 lead over TWU. He also scored the lone goal of the shootout as SFU won 5-4.
The former Connecticut Jr. Rangers forward now has points in five of his last six games with four goals and five assists over that stretch. The streak sees Cox sitting sixth in scoring on SFU and third among rookie players on the team.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Trinity Western University defenceman Elijah Vilio (one goal, four assists), University of Victoria defenceman Joe Olson (four assists), Vikes goaltender Daniel Paul (one win, 51 saves) and Simon Fraser University goaltender Andrew Henderson (one win, 58 saves).
