The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of November 2017:
Player of the Month - Gage Colpron, Vancouver Island University
Playing hockey back on Vancouver Island agrees big time with Colpron. He was a dominant junior B player in Campbell River from 2013-16 and after a slow start to this season with just one goal in his first three games, the 22-year-old from Kelowna caught fire for 12 points in seven games in November. With a 4-3-0 record during the month, VIU now sits in the final playoff spot at the midpoint of the season.
Defenceman of the Month - Mathew Berry-Lamontagna, Simon Fraser University
Now in his fourth BCIHL season, Berry-Lamontagna continues to be one of the league's top blueliners at both ends of the ice. He averaged a point a game in November, including the overtime winner as SFU handed Selkirk College its first loss of the season on November 18. The 24-year-old from Vancouver also had a goal and an assist as the Clan thumped VIU 8-1 on November 11th. He helps anchor an SFU defence that allowed an average of 2.5 goals in six November games.
Goaltender of the Month - Silas Matthys, Trinity Western University
For the sixth time in his five year BCIHL career, the 25-year-old from Switzerland is the league's goaltender of the month. Matthys was lights out in November, going 5-0-0 as the Spartans went 6-1 to put a stranglehold on second place in the league standings. His unbeaten run included a 39-save performance in a 4-3 win over VIU on November 4. Overall, Matthys led all BCIHL starters with a 2.25 GAA and .921 save-percentage.
Rookie of the Month - Brayden Brown, Trinity Western University
The former Edmonton Oil Kings forward established himself as one of the deadliest snipers in the BCIHL, tallying 11 points, including eight goals, in seven games during November to lead all rookies. His ten goals on the season are tied for second overall and 17 points in 13 games only trails Selkirk veteran Dallas Calvin in the scoring race. The 20-year old Calgary Canucks alumnus was held off the scoresheet just twice during the month and had three multi-point outings.
