Clan adds former WHL blueliner Austin Adam on CIS transfer from Western

Simon Fraser University is proud to announce our next recruit signing for the 2017/18 season, defenceman Austin Adam of Surrey, BC.

Adam transfers to SFU from the University of Western Ontario where he spent the 2016/17 season, putting up three points (1G 2A) in 28 games with the Mustangs.

It's a homecoming for the Surrey Minor Hockey product who spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Everett and Moose Jaw, before wrapping up his junior career in the BCHL with the Chilliwack Chiefs.

The 6'6” defenceman is expected to play a prominent role on the blue line for SFU this season.

“It's a tremendous pick up for our squad, adding a former Western League defenceman to our group is going to have a great impact on how we play.” Said SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “We felt our defense core is already strong, but adding Adam's size and experience will make us that much better.”

In five seasons of junior hockey Adam collected 47 points (12G 35A) in 233 regular season games, adding another 7 points (1G 6A) in 30 playoff games.

When asked what fans can expect from him, Adam describes his style of play as “big mobile stay at home defenceman with an offensive upside.”

His goals for the coming season are “to contribute each and every day, lead by example, and ultimately help win a championship.”

Adam will join a defensive group that allowed the second fewest goals against in the BCIHL last season. With Adam and former BCIHL top defenceman Matthew Berry-Lamontagna anchoring the blue line, it's expected to be a strength for the Clan this season.
