A pair of faces familiar to Simon Fraser University fans have signed with the Kunlun Red Star organization, a KHL team based in Beijing, China.
Jordan Liem and Jared Eng have each signed to two-way deals and will begin with the farm team Kunlun Red Star Heilongjiang which plays in Harbin, China. Liem and Eng signing their contracts in Moscow.
Liem, a Surrey native, has spent the past three seasons with SFU, playing in 48 games in net for the Clan. Before playing for SFU he split his junior career between time in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Pacific Junior Hockey league where he won a championship with the Aldergrove Kodiaks in 2013/14. Liem has signed a three year deal with the team.
Eng, a defenceman from North Vancouver played two seasons for the Clan from 2013-2015 after spending two years in the NCAA with Sacred Heart University. Before playing in college Eng spend two seasons in the BCHL with the Victoria Grizzlies and Coquitlam Express.
On top of his success on the ice, Eng as also represented team Canada at the inline hockey world championships on multiple occasions. He spent last season with Bjorbo IF in Division 2 in Sweden. Eng has signed a one-year contract.
With China hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics, the country is building a hockey program and these signings are a part of that. Both players while born in Canada are of Chinese descent.
